Ukraine is one of the biggest countries in Europe. For more than three years Ukraine has been defending its choice of European values, not only by tackling internal, global and European challenges but by confronting military aggression from its closest neighbour, a permanent member of the UN Security Council and one of the key guarantors of world security under the Budapest Memorandum.

As the EU struggles with weak economic performance and multiple crises such as Brexit, the Netherlands referendum, and the election of pro-Russian candidates to heads of state, does Ukraine’s desire to be a part of a united Europe make sense?

This presentation will posit a vision of a future united Europe by exploring Ukraine’s path to the EU and the perspective of those European countries which still struggle to be a part of it.

About the speaker

HE Dr Mykola Kulinich was formerly the Ambassador of Ukraine to Japan (2007-2013). The Ambassador brings extensive diplomatic and academic experience to his current role, including more than ten years as Rector of the Diplomatic Academy of Ukraine. He has studied in the United States (John Hopkins, Harvard) and Japan.
